United Labor Party leader Gurgen Arsenian
United Labor Party (ULP)
The ULP is a small group led by Gurgen Arsenian, a wealthy businessman loyal to the Armenian leadership. It unexpectedly cleared the 5 percent vote threshold and won six seats in the 131-seat National Assembly during the 2003 elections. Some observers doubt that it will repeat that success, attributed by critics to vote buying, this time around. Like the other parliamentary parties, the ULP has one seat in various-level election commissions, giving it a significant lever to influence the electoral process.
