Armenian newspapers: a voice of criticism
Print Media
Armenian print media is far more diverse than television, with most of a dozen or so major national newspapers highly critical of the country's leadership. Only a few publications are owned or controlled by political parties. However, their impact on public opinion, especially in regions outside Yerevan, is seriously limited due to their very low circulation.
Of all the parties mentioned in this Election Diagram, only the Armenian Revolutionary Federation officially owns a newspaper, the Yerkir weekly. It has a tiny circulation and cannot be considered an election tool, however. Another, more popular paper published three times a week, Iravunk, is controlled by a small opposition party which is boycotting the elections. There is also a daily, Hayk, which belongs to the former ruling Armenian National Movement party, which is not expected to win any parliament seats.
