A movie that examines the topic of homosexuality in Islamic nations – called Jihad for Love – recently made its debut at the Istanbul Film Festival. The film, which traces the lives of 12 gay Muslim men and women, took six years to make, with much of the camera work being done in secret. Some audience members at the screening voiced hope that the movie will help stoke open discussion of what remains a taboo subject in many Islamic countries.
