The minimum wage and state pensions in Turkmenistan have increased by 10 percent as of January 1.

Workers will now receive 544 manats per month ($190) while the top-tier of regular pensions is now 484 manats per month ($170), the Interfax news agency reported January 7.

Wages and pensions are now being calculated and paid in Turkmenistan’s newly denominated currency, which knocks several zeros and the face of former president Saparmurat Niyazov off bank notes, the report adds.
