The president of Tajikistan, Imomali Rahmon, has put the country’s chief of the Supreme Court on performance probation. The court’s boss, Nusratullo Abdulloyev, now has six months to shape up, or he will be removed, the president warned.

Five other senior officials were also warned that "serious shortcomings" during a January 29 session of the Security Council, the Asia Plus news agency reported. Like Abdulloyev, these officials have until July to turn things around.

Among the reprimanded officials were Shermuhammad Shohiyon, the head of the Council of Justice, Zarif Alizoda, a state advisor to the president on legal policy, and Ismoil Shafiyev, the head of the Agency for Special Properties within the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
