The mandate of Karzai's interim administration is scheduled to expire on June 22. In the six months since its installation following the Bonn peace conference, the interim government has grappled with the challenges of overcoming more than two decades of nearly continuous warfare. Many observers expect that at least some, perhaps all of the leading figures in the interim Afghan administration - Karzai in particular - will have important roles in the transitional government established by the Loya Jirga.
Karzai and other top interim administration leaders - including Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Defense Minister Mohammed Fahim - have traveled extensively, both within Afghanistan and abroad, striving to promote the country's stabilization. On several occasions EurasiaNet contributor Camelia Entekhabi-Fard has accompanied interim government officials on their travels. The images in this photo essay by Entekhabi-Fard show interim government members in action in a variety of locations in Afghanistan.
