Text of report by Armenian news agency Noyan Tapan on 22nd June
Yerevan, 21st June: Parliamentary by-elections were held on
20th June in Constituency No 53, in Lori. The Central Electoral
Commission quoted data from the constituency electoral
commission to the effect that Vram Gulzadyan (independent
candidate and village elder of Vardablur) received the majority
of votes. He had also won at the 30th May parliamentary
elections. However, because the number of inaccuracies [in the
electoral roll] considerably exceeded the margin of votes
between the winner and runner-up and so could have a great
impact on the election outcome, Lori Constituency Electoral
Commission declared the election in that constituency to be
invalid. According to preliminary data, the number of votes
received by Gulzadyan considerably exceeded the number of votes
won by the second-placed candidate this time.
