Azeri electoral bodies register 365 hopefuls under first-past-the-post system

Baku, 9th October: Some 365 candidates have been registered so far under the first-past-the-post system, the Central Electoral Commission told Turan news agency. Of the registered candidates, 72 are nominees of political parties, 242 are independent and 51 have been nominated by initiative groups.

The status of the registered candidates is as follows: One hundred and twenty two are without party affiliation, 126 are members of the [ruling] New Azerbaijan Party; 34 are from the PFAP [People's Front of Azerbaijan Party]; 24 are from the PNIA [Party for National Independence of Azerbaijan]; 17 are from the Musavat Party; four are affiliated to the Social Welfare Party; four are from the Motherland Party; three are from the Vahdat [Unity] Party; three are from the DPA [Democratic Party of Azerbaijan]; two are affiliated to the Azerbaijani Party of Democratic Entrepreneurs; two are from the Democratic World Party of Azerbaijan; one is a member of the Civic Solidarity Party; one is from the National Congress Party; one is from the United Communist Party; one is from the Compatriot Party; and one is affiliated to the Independent Azerbaijan Party.

Signature lists were obtained from 1,008 candidates under the first-past-the-post system. The deadline for receiving the documents for the first-past-the-post system is tomorrow [10th October]. Those who were refused registration are entitled to submit their complaint to the courts and the CEC within five days.
