AZERBAIJAN ELECTION WATCH 

Azeri president warns against interference in electoral process

Baku, Trend correspondent E. Huseynov, 29th October: Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev has expressed confidence that the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan on 5th November will be democratic, transparent and fair. Trend news agency reports that Aliyev said this on 29th October at the end of a special conference dedicated to preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

The heads of the republic's town and district executive authorities, as well as the heads of appropriate ministries and institutions attended the conference. The head of the Presidential Executive Staff, Ramiz Mehdiyev, Interior Minister Ramil Usubov, Communications Minister Nadir Ahmadov, the heads of Azerenerzhi [Azeri energy company] and Azerigas, Muslim Imanov and Alikhan Malikov, addressed the conference. They informed the president about the preparatory work being carried out and announced their readiness to assist with the successful conduct of the elections.

Aliyev emphasized that law-enforcement and local executive bodies have no right to interfere in the work of local electoral commissions.
