Text of report by Azerbaijani TV station ANS on 15th December
[Presenter in studio] The municipal elections in Narimanov District in Baku
have been declared invalid. This was decided by the Central Electoral
Commission [CEC] of Azerbaijan.
[Correspondent, over video of a CEC sitting] Sayad Karimov, a member of the
CEC who participated in the inspection to check the alleged violations in
Narimanov District, said that falsifications during drawing of the final
protocols were discovered in a majority of polling stations in this
territory. Karimov suggested declaring the result at these polling stations
invalid.
CEC declared the outcome of the elections invalid and decided to form the
composition of the territorial electoral commission again. In accordance
with the law on regulations for elections in municipalities, re-elections
will be held within three months. Jafar Valiyev, the CEC chairman, said
that there were reports about violations at other polling stations. If
these facts are confirmed, the CEC will make an appropriate decision,
