Azeri opposition party says headquarters kept under police surveillance

 
Text of report by Azerbaijani newspaper 'Hurriyat' on 16th
September entitled "ADP headquarters again surrounded"

The illegal police presence around the Azerbaijani Democratic
Party [ADP] headquarters has recently become permanent. The
police is both keeping the headquarters under surveillance and
monitoring the people going there. The building is also under
surveillance by plain-clothed persons.

On 15th September the ADP headquarters were again kept
under police surveillance. Although rank and file police did
not know the reasons for this action, a police officer said
that the law-enforcement agencies had received information that
the ADP members would stage a rally and for this reason
precautionary measures were taken to prevent it. According to
the information the power-wielding bodies are instructed to
surround the ADP headquarters when there are mass protest
actions in the city.
