Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency carried the biographies of the new members of the Kazakh government approved by parliament on 12th October. The report said: "Aleksandr Pavlov was born in 1953 in Pavlodar (administrative centre of Pavlodar Region, northern Kazakhstan) . He graduated from the Belarus Institute of National Economy named after V.V. Kuybyshev, the Academy of Social Sciences under the Central Committee of the CPSU and is an economist. He worked as minister of finance of Kazakhstan from October 1994 to February 1998. "Daniyal Akhmetov was born in 1954 in Pavlodar. He graduated from the Pavlodar Industrial Institute, is a construction engineer, a candidate of economics, an academician of the Academy of Mineral Resources. He headed Pavlodar Region administration from January 1993 to December 1997. He was akim (head) of North Kazakhstan Region from December 1997. "Yerzhan Utembayev was born in Almaty in 1955. He graduated from the Kazakh State University, is a mathematician and candidate of economics. He headed the government apparatus from October 1995 to April 1996. He was until recently chairman of the Strategic Planning and Reform Agency. "Zeynulla Kakimzhanov was born in 1959 in Charsk in Semipalatinsk Region (now part of East Kazakhstan Region). He graduated from Moscow's Lomonosov State University, is an economist and cybernetics expert, a candidate of economics. From March-Novemer 1997 he was a presidential aide and deputy chairman of the supreme economic council under the head of state. "Mazhit Yesenbayev was born in 1949 in Pavlodar. He graduated from Pavlodar Polytechnical Institute, is an economist and an engineer, a candidate of economics and a senior lecturer. He is a state adviser of the first rank to the taxation service. He headed the State Tax Inspectorate from December 1994 to September 1996 and was first deputy minister of finance. His latest posts were as chairman of the tax committee of the Ministry of Finance and head of Karaganda Region." The biographies have been texted.
