Text of report by the Kazakh news agency Interfax-Kazakhstan on 6th December
Astana, 6th December: There will be 23 candidates standing for three seats
in the Majlis (lower chamber) of parliament in three single-seat electoral
districts at the forthcoming runoff elections in Kazakhstan due on 26th
December.
The Central Electoral Commission told Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency today
that one candidate had been put forward at the Kurmangazy electoral
district No16 in Atyrau Region (west of the republic), 15 at the electoral
district No24 in Zhambyl Region (south) and seven at the Abay electoral
district No53 in South Kazakhstan Region. The nomination of candidates
ended on 4th December.
According to the CEC, 8th December is the registration deadline for
candidates for the deputy seats.
As was reported earlier, the CEC deemed invalid the elections to the Majlis
held in the abovementioned electoral distrcts in October.
The Majlis consists of 77 deputy seats.
