ELECTORAL BODY RECEIVES COMPLAINTS, POLLSTERS "DETAINED"

Almaty's electoral commission is receiving telephone calls
from voters complaining about breaches in the voting process,
Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency reported on 10th October
quoting the deputy chairman of the electoral commission. The
Central Electoral Commission had received 11 complaints by
voters and proxies of candidates to parliament about breaches
in the elections, the agency said. However, the commission also
said that no "considerable breaches flagrantly violating the
electoral legislation have been detected so far."

Law-enforcement bodies "prohibited" the Association of
Sociologists and Political Scientists from polling voters and
some of its representatives "were detained" by security service
officers in some cities, the agency said quoting the
association's acting president. The Association, which received
funding for the poll from the OSCE mission and the Soros
Foundation, had earlier said hat they would "dispute the
election results in court" if there were major discrepancies
between the poll results and the election result, according to
an Interfax-Kazakhstan report on 4th October.
