Kazakh progovernment party rejects allegation of foreign finance

Text of report by Kazakh Khabar TV on 3rd September

[Presenter] The election campaign is continuing in the republic. The leader of the [progovernment] Civic Party of Kazakhstan [Azat Peruashev] responded to the attacks of his political
opponents at the Central Electoral Commission today [3rd
September]. The main subject was the provenance of the party's
funds, though the main occasion was the registration of
candidates for parliamentary seats.

[Correspondent, over video of a meeting] The Civic Party
of Kazakhstan, the members of which as at today number over
6,000 people, had its [party] list of nine candidates to the
Majlis [lower chamber of parliament, elections to which
scheduled for 10th October] registered.

[Azat Peruashev] We consider that - let one seat go to
another candidate, but we will fight for the remaining nine
[seats] and try to win them.

[Correspondent] The representative of the Civic Party of
Kazakhstan received candidates' certificates from [the
chairwoman of the Central Electoral Commission] Zagipa Baliyeva
for his colleagues with the usual wishes of success in the
election campagin. At the end of this nice procedure, Azat
Peruashev responded to the allegation voiced yesterday [2nd
September, and on previous occasions, see note below] by the
co-chairman of the [opposition] Citizen [Azamat] Democratic
Party of Kazakhstan, Galym Abilsiitov, to the effect that the
Civic Party of Kazakhstan is supported by foreign investors.

[Azat Peruashev, standing in a lobby] Concerning Galym
Abilsiitov's allegation, I want to say that the Civic Party of
Kazakhstan is always open and works only honestly. We are in
politics not in order to deal with machinations but just the
opposite. At any time our doors are open, come and see. Check
the way we are working. Everyone knows both our address and
telephone number.

As regards the allegation by the member of the Citizen
Party I can say only one thing.
Today the position of this party is not as good as one
would wish. That is why they are seeking justification
beforehand in the event that they lose [in the parliamentary
elections].

[Correspondent] As at today, the candidates of seven out
of the 10 parties which aspire to stand in the elections have
been registered. The [pro-presidential] Agrarian Party will be
issued with the certificates for its candidates on Monday [6th
September]. The [nationalist] Alash Party and the [opposition]
Republican People's Party of Kazakhstan have only six days left
until the registration deadline for the candidates.
