The Central Electoral Commission said at a regular meeting that it had
registered lists of candidates for parliament from three political parties
and blocs: the Party of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan and of
Participants in Other Local Conflicts, the electoral bloc Union of
Democratic Forces [the Unity Party of Kyrgyzstan, the Economic Revival
Party, the Social and Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan, the Adilet Party] and
the Democratic Party of Women of Kyrgyzstan.
The electoral commission's chairman, Sulayman Imanbayev, handed to the
parties' leaders - A.Tashtanbekov [the Party of Veterans of the War in
Afghanistan and Participants in Other Local Conflicts], Chingiz Aytmatov
[the Adilet Party] and Tokon Shayliyeva [the Democratic Party of Women of
Kyrgyzstan] - a resolution confirming the registration.
The meeting also approved these parties' candidates for the membership of
the Central Electoral Commission with a consultative voice.
The electoral commission did not find any inaccuracies in the parties'
documents and papers with details on their candidates, except in the papers
of the Union of Democratic Forces electoral bloc. It was said at the
meeting that six candidates from this bloc had given inaccurate information
about themselves and they would not be registered until the situation was
clarified.
According to the commission, a total of 358 out of the 585 nominated
candidates were registered as of 22nd January, with 84 candidates standing
for the Legislative Assembly [upper chamber of parliament] and 174 for the
Assembly of People's Representatives [lower chamber]. They include 51
members of the existing parliament, of which 34 are running for the
Legislative Assembly and 17 for the Assembly of People's Representatives.
