Twelve Kyrgyz parties and blocs register to run in parliamentary elections

Bishkek, 25th January: Today the CEC [Central Electoral Commission]
registered at its session on the registration of candidates for the
parliamentary elections [on 27th February] the lists of the remaining eight
political parties. They are: the My Country Party of Action, the Democratic
Movement of Kyrgyzstan Party, the Fatherland [Ata-Meken] Socialist Party,
the Agrarian Party of Kyrgyzstan, the Free Kyrgyzstan [Erkin Kyrgyzstan]
Progressive and Democratic Party, the Manas electoral bloc [the Republican
People's Party and the Party for the Protection of the Interests of Workers
of Industry, Agriculture and Low-Income Families], the Banner [Asaba]
National Revival Party and the Agrarian and Labour Party of Kyrgyzstan.
Candidates from 12 political parties and blocs, including the Party of
Communists of Kyrgyzstan, which was registered earlier, the Union of
Democratic Forces bloc [the Unity Party of Kyrgyzstan, the Economic Revival
Party, the Social and Democratic Party and the Justice [Adilet] Party], the
Democratic Party of Women of Kyrgyzstan and the Party of Veterans of the
War in Afghanistan and of Participants in Other Local Conflicts, will stand
for parliament.

The auditing commission had no time to verify thoroughly information on
candidates submitted by the parties because the parties delayed submitting
information [on incomes and properties of candidates and their families]
until the last days of registration. Therefore, the CEC adopted a
resolution to continue the verification after registration [of the parties]
and if the CEC finds inaccuracies in the information stated by them, it
will notify the district [electoral] commissions and withdraw the
candidates from the elections.

According to the latest report, the CEC has registered 448 candidates, of
which 231 candidates for the Legislative Assembly and 217 - for the
Assembly of People's Representatives [respectively, the standing and
non-standing chambers of parliament]. According to the chairman of the CEC,
S.[Sulayman] Imanbayev, on average, there will be six candidates per seat
in electoral districts.
