Bishkek, 26th January: Candidates for parliamentary seats from the Ata-Meken
[Fatherland] Socialist Party, deputies of the existing Kyrgyz parliament,
Rahat Achilova and Dzh. Bokoshev, as well as the editor of the `Res
Publica' newspaper, Zamira Sydykova, have withdrawn their candidacies from
party lists for unknown reasons, the Central Electoral Commission reported
today.
The electoral commission also received a notice of withdrawal from the
leader of the Agrarian and Labour Party, Uson Sydykov in connection with
his appointment to the post of deputy chairman of the CIS executive
committee and director of the committee's legal department.
The electoral commission has refused registration to a number of nominees by
party lists because of inaccuracies in their reports on their incomes - for
concealing information on the amount of their shares and property. These
are G. Mamaseitova from the Party of Communists of Kyrgyzstan and A.
Keldibekov and Cholpon Abykeyev [editor of the Kyrgyz-language `Aalam'
newspaper] from the Union of Democratic Forces electoral bloc and others.
The chairman of the Central Electoral and Referendum Commission, Sulayman
Imanbayev, said at a working meeting that the commission could recheck the
papers of the registered candidates. "If the commission finds inaccuracies
in a candidate's reports it has the right to withdraw him from the list of
candidates," Imanbayev said.
