Text of report by the Kyrgyz news agency Kabar on 7th February
Bishkek, 7th February: A news conference by a deputy of the Legislative
Assembly [standing chamber] of the parliament, a candidate for a seat in
the new parliament, Dooronbek Sadyrbayev [a member of the opposition known
for his nationalist ideas], was devoted to his election tour to an
electoral district in Nooken District of [southwest] Dzhalal-Abad Region.
Sadyrbayev said at the news conference that representatives of the local
bodies of power put obstacles in the way of him holding meetings with the
electorate in the runup to the elections, which is at variance with the
Electoral Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. According to the head of the legal
support department under the Central Electoral Commission [CEC ], Aychurek
Eshimova, the CEC chairman, Sulayman Imanbayev, has been filled with
indignation over the activities of the local authorities who are harming
the democracy and transparency of the election campaign. Sadyrbayev said at
the news conference that he is happy with the CEC's response to his
statement on violations by the local bodies of power. In addition, he
learned that an official letter to the heads of regional and district state
administration is being drawn up on behalf of the Kyrgyz state secretary
calling on them not to interfere in the election campaign and to hold the
elections to the parliament in the spirit of the code on elections in the
Kyrgyz Republic.
