Kyrgyz radio announced in a special news bulletin the preliminary results of
the voting in the election of deputies to both chambers of parliament which
were held on 20th February. Most of the candidates running in single-seat
electoral districts failed to win the 50 per cent of votes required to be
elected. Only the former leader of the Kyrgyz Soviet communists, Turdakun
Usubaliyev, and Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev's brother got through in the
first round, according to the results announced by the radio.
Announcing the preliminary results of voting for the Legislative Assembly,
standing chamber of Kyrgyz parliament, in single-seat electoral districts,
the radio said:
The chairman of the (Poor and Unprotected) People's Party, Daniyar Usenov,
is leading with 28.48 per cent of the votes in Togolok-Moldo eletoral
district No 5 in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, and that his opponent in this
district has gained 11.97 per cent of the votes.
The leader of the Fatherland (Ata-Meken) Socialist Party, Omurbek Tekebayev,
is leading with 35.20 per cent of the votes in Bazar-Korgon electoral
district No 12 in southwest Dzhalal-Abad Region. His opponent has gained
22.30 per cent of the votes.
The former leader of the Kyrgyz Soviet communists, Turdakun Usubaliyev, has
gained 76.10 per cent of the votes, running unopposed in Son-Kul electoral
district No 22 in northeast Naryn Region. The leader of the Party of
Communists of Kyrgyzstan, Absamat Masaliyev, is leading with 41.48 per cent
of the votes and his opponent has won 9.95 per cent of the votes in
Kyzyl-Kya electoral district No 26 in newly-set up Batken Region in
southern Kyrgyzstan.
The former head of Osh Regional Department of National Security, presently a
deputy of the Legislative Assembly, Alisher Abdimomunov, is lagging behind
his opponent with 26.86 per cent of the votes against 35.38 per cent in
Aravan electoral district in southern Osh Region.
The leader of the Erkin Kyrgyzstan (Erk) Progressive and Democratic Party,
Tursunbay Bakir Uulu, is losing the contest against his opponent, with
27.38 per cent as against 31.86 per cent of the vote in Kara Su electoral
district No 30 in southern Osh Region.
MP Adaham Madumarov is leading with 28.12 per cent of the vote and his
opponent has gained 14.77 per cent of the votes.
The leader of the main opposition party, the Honour (Ar-Namys) Party, Feliks
Kulov, is leading with 36.33 per cent and his opponent is lagging behind
him with 17.94 per cent of the votes in Kara-Buura electoral district No 44
in northwest Talas Region. The sacked defence minister, Myrzakan Subanov,
is ahead of his opponent, with 29.6 per cent of the votes against 18.22 per
cent in Talas electoral district No 45 in the same region.
Announcing the preliminary results of the elections of deputies of the
Assembly of People's Representatives, the non-standing chamber of the
parliament, the radio said:
The leader of the My Country Party of Action, Almazbek Ismankulov, is
lagging behind his opponent, Dzhapar Mukashev, outgoing deputy
prosecutor-general, with 10.72 per cent against 13.19 per cent of the votes
in Togolok-Moldo electoral district No 5.
The leader of the Economic Revival Party, Valeriy Khon, is behind his
opponent, former governor of Osh Region and outgoing State Forestry Agency
chief, Dzhanysh Rustenbekov, with 8.64 per cent of votes against 22.77 per
cent in Tunduk electoral district No 6 in Bishkek.
Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev's brother, Asankul Akayev, has gained 50.22
per cent of the votes in Kemin electoral district No 36 in central Chuy
Region where he ran unopposed.
Turning to the election of deputies of the Legislative Assembly by party
lists, the radio said that the republican-wide electoral district had
received the protocols on the results of elections from 2,004 polling
stations, or over 97 per cent of the total number. The results so far
showed that:
The Party of Communists of Kyrgyzstan has gained 27.69 per cent of the vote;
The Union of Democratic Forces electoral bloc - 18.56 per cent;
The Democratic Party of Women of Kyrgyzstan - 12.75 per cent;
The Party of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan and of Participants in Other
Local Conflicts - 8.12 per cent;
The Fatherland (Ata-Meken) Socialist Party - 6.45 per cent;
The My Country Party of Action - 4.84 per cent;
The Erkin Kyrgyzstan (ErK) Progressive and Democratic Party - 4.19 per cent;
The Agrarian and Labour Party of Kyrgyzstan - 2.47 per cent;
The Agrarian Party of the Kyrgyz Republic - 2.43 per cent;
The Manas electoral bloc - 2.4 per cent;
The Banner (Asaba) National Revival Party - 1.5 per cent
