Excerpts from report by Kyrgyz radio on 24th February
[Announcer] As we have already reported, the Central Electoral Commission
[the CEC] adopted a resolution today, in accordance with Paragraphs 1and 2
of Article 76 of the [electoral] code, to set the date for the repeat
ballot for the election of deputies of the Legislative Assembly (standing
chamber) and the Assembly of People's Representatives (non-standing
chamber) of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic. Here are details in
a report by Inga Sikorskaya.
[Sikorskaya] One hundred per cent of the protocols from 2,053 polling
stations [of the total 2,057] have already been received by the database of
the Shayloo State Computer System, where the results of the elections from
electoral district commissions have come in via the computer network. On
the day of the voting, 20th February, 1,643,177 voters cast their votes,
which is 64.51 per cent.
According to the preliminary results of the election of deputies on party
lists, the Party of Communists of Kyrgyzstan is still in the lead. A total
of 27.67 per cent of voters cast their votes in its favour. The Union of
Democratic Forces electoral bloc is in second place with 18.64 per cent.
Then the Democratic Party of Women of Kyrgyzstan is third, winning more
than 12.5 per cent. Then the Party of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan
and of Participants of Other Local Conflicts has rather over eight per cent
and the Fatherland (Ata-Meken) Socialist Party has more than six per cent.
The My Country Party of Action political party managed to overcome the
five-per cent barrier and it also joined the parties which will be
participating in the distribution of the 15 deputy seats.
The remaining parties did not gain the necessary five per cent of votes.
As far as the election of the deputies in single-seat electoral districts is
concerned, practically all the electoral district commissions, according to
the Shayloo state system, presented 100 per cent of protocols. Only one
electoral disrict, Kurulush No 8, presented 95.5 per cent of protocols.
[passage omitted: one candidate refused to participate in the second round
and the CEC will consider the issue]
The CEC will hold a meeting on Monday, 28th Febuary, at which the final
results of the elections will be publicized.
