Text of report by Kyrgyz radio on 4th March
A news conference was held today at the Kabar news agency on the outcome of
yesterday's extraordinary sitting of the commission of the Togolok-Moldo
electoral district No 5.
The commission's chairman, (Chogon Alamanov), and the commission's
secretary, (Aleksandra Shutinskaya), told the news conference that the
extraordinary sitting had been held following a letter sent by (Bekzhanov),
the proxy of a candidate for the Legislative Assembly, (?Isa Tokoyev), to
the Bishkek prosecutor's office. The letter said that Tokoyev's opponent
Daniyar Usenov [the leader of the opposition (Poor and Unprotected)
People's Party], had been concealing property. In his letter, Bekzhanov
said that Daniyar Usenov had not declared a part of his shares in the
Kyrgyz integrated mining works, a flat in the (?Uchkol) residential area
and his wife's house in Kara Balta.
On the basis of Bekzhanov's letter and Article 56 of the Electoral Code, the
Togolok-Moldo electoral commission decided to cancel its earlier decision
on 12th March 2000 on the registration of Daniyar Usenov as candidate for
parliament.
Daniyar Usenov, who was at yesterday's sitting, submitted some documents to
refute the accusation and said he would appeal to the Central Electoral
Commission against the decision of the district commission and sue Isa
Tokoyev's proxy, Bekzhanov, for slander.
At today's news conference at the Kabar news agency Daniyar Usenov repeated
that he intended to launch an action against Bekzhanov and complain to the
Central Electoral Commission over the decision of the Togolok-Moldo
electoral commission.
