Text of report by Iranian radio from Mashhad on 25th October
[Presenter] The election campaign in Tajikistan is continuing
with the latest protest by the council of political parties
against the resolution of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan. Here
is a report by our colleague Rahmatkarim Davlat on this:
[Davlat] Circulating a statement today [25th October], the
Consultative Council [which was set up in the runup to the
presidential and parliamentary elections in September]
announced once again their opposition to the resolution by the
country's Supreme Court regarding a complaint made by the
Islamic Rebirth Party, the Democratic Party and the Justice
Party of Tajikistan. According to the council, the resolution
of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan and the decision of the
National Reconciliation Commission on the registration of the
candidate for the post of president of Tajikistan nominated by
the Islamic Rebirth Party, Davlat Usmon, is illegal and
violates the existing norms.
The Consultative Council, which consists of the Democratic
Party, the Justice Party, the Congress of Popular Unity, the
National Movement Party of Tajikistan and the political
organizations of (?Oshkoro) and Lali Badakhshon, also expressed
concern about possible dire consequences and the present
political situation in the country. It mentioned that if the
the situation deteriorates the responsibility for this will not
lie with the Consultative Council which actively participated
in the latest political campaigns.
This statement by the Consultative Council was published
at a time when the Justice Ministry, in its turn, considers the
existence of such a council a violation of the current laws.
The justice minister of Tajikistan [Shavkat Ismoilov], who
spoke on national television the previous day, said that this
council was not registered with the country's Justice Ministry
and did not have the right to function officially.
