Text of report by Iranian radio from Mashhad on 27th September

The Islamic Rebirth Party and the Democratic Party of
Tajikistan have nominated their candidates for the presidential
elections of the country. In seperate sessions, the congresses
of the Islamic Rebirth Party of Tajikistan and the Democratic
Party of Tajikistan from the Tehran faction nominated [Minister
of Economy of Foreign Economic Relations] Davlat Usmon and
Sulton Quvvatov [former chairman of the Tax Committee]
correspondingly as candidates for the forthcoming presidential
elections. Zafar Ikromov [the chief advisor to the Tajik
president on defence and law and order], who put forward his
nomination for the elections from the Democratic Party two
weeks ago, withdrew his candidacy at the congress of this party.
