First candidate registered
Narodnaya Gazeta (No. 40) informed of the first candidate for the post of president of Tajikistan for elections on November 6. It is the current President of RT Emomali Rahmonov. The decision on his registration was made by central Commission for Elections and Referendum, based on submitted documents and in accordance with Article 25 of Constitutional Law of RT "On elections of president of RT". Emomali Rahmonov was nominated as candidate for presidency by People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan, Federation of Independent Professional Unions of Tajikistan, Union of Youth of Tajikistan, Majlis of People’s Deputies of Mountain Badakhshan Autonomous Region, Majlises of Leninabad, Khatlon regions, of Dushanbe, and the council of representatives of districts of republican subordination. The newspaper reminds that Emomali Rahmonov was born in 1952, in town of Dangara in Khatlon region, and has university education. At the moment he is president of Tajikistan, and chairman of PDPT. He lives in Dushanbe, is married, and has eight children.
Society of Uzbeks supports candidacy of E.Rahmonov
Narodnaya Gazeta (No. 40) informed of a meeting of the regional Council of Society of Uzbeks of Tajikistan in Khojand. Chairman of the Council Homid Pulatyov informed that the meeting discussed supoprt to candidacy of E.Rahmonov for the elections. Participants of the meeting highly estimated activity of E.rahmonov as head of state for establishment of peace, national unity, strengthening of friendship and brotherhood of all peoples and ethnic groups of Tajikistan; they unanimously supported the candidacy of E.Rahmonov and expressed assurance that peoples of Tajikistan under his leadership would achieve high results in all spheres of life of society in 21st century.
CEC issued to E.ahmonov the certificate of a candidate for the post of president at the elections
Information agency Asia-Plus (A-P Blitz No. 190) informed of issuance, on October 6, of a certificate of candidate for post of president of RT by Central Election Commission. Chairman of CEC Mirzoali Boltuyev said that the certificate was awarded based on examination of documents submitted by repersentatives of E.Rahmonov on October 2. As for the other three candidates – Davlat Ismonov of Islamic Revival Party, Sulton Kuvvatov of Democratic Party (Tehran platform), Saifiddin Turayev (Party of Justice) M.Boltuyev said that by different reasons they did not yet collect the necessary number of signatures in their support (5% of number of voters – 150,000 votes). By request of these candidates, CEC decided to extend the term of registration for two days – from October 6 till October 8 inclusive. The additional days were allocated from the reserve of CEC, foreseen for study of registration documents, count of signatures, etc.
Open letter of S.A.Nuri to M.Boltuyev
Information agency Asia-Plus (A-P Blitz No. 157) informed of a press conference of leader of Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan, chairman of CNR S.A.Nuri. S.A.Nuri said that he addressed an open letter to chairman of Central Commission for Elections and Referendum Mirzoali Boltuyev; in the letter, he demanded that an "appropriate estimation" be given to actions of authorities, which prohibit activity of initiative groups and representatives of alternative candidates for post of president on forthcoming election of head of state on November 6. He stated that at a press conference at CNR on October 2. He said that local authorities put forth demands for the initiative groups and representatives of the candidates for legalizing their activity on collecting signatures in support of their candidates, which are not defined in any laws. In particular, in Dushanbe, a coordination center was formed at the Hukumat of the city, with a right to issue permissions for work of initiative groups. Authorities in Kofarnihon, Isfara and Kanibadam, for example, demanded that a document be presented proving registration of the party and its candidate at Ministry of Justice and at CEC. Preventing such violations of law, says the letter, is the priority task of the CEC and law enforcement authorities. S.A.Nuri and candidate of Islamic Revival Party Davlat Ismonov warned that would such violations continue IRP would have to boycott the elections. Leader of UTO made a proposal to extend the terms for registering candidates for the post of president of RT.
