Issues related to preparations for and conduct of the elections
to the republic's Mejlis [parliament], scheduled for [12th]
December of this year [1999], were discussed at a meeting of
the Central

Commission on elections and conducting referendums in
Turkmenistan held on Friday [17th September]. In line with
Article 10 of Turkmenistan's law on elections of Majlis
deputies, the central electoral commission resolved to set up
electoral districts in all Regions of the country and in the
[Turkmen capital] city of Ashkhabad.

As part of the election campaign, which is now gathering
pace, a national conference "The conceptual principle of
Saparmyrat Turkmenbashy's programme on further democratization
of election processes in Turkmenistan" is to be held in
Ashkhabad on 21st September [1999].
