Kazakh Electoral Commission registers two more parties for coming elections

Text of report by Kazakh Khabar TV on 26th August

[Presenter, over video of chairwoman of the Kazakh Central
Electoral Commission, Zagipa Baliyeva, interviewed in an
office] The chairwoman of the [Kazakh] Central Electoral
Commission, Zagipa Baliyeva, commented on the financial side of
the election campaign by parties and public movements in Almaty
today [26th August]. She said that none of the Kazakh parties
was being financed by foreign sources. Let me recall that
yesterday [25th August] the leaders of the [opposition] Citizen
[Azamat] Party called in question the legality of the financing
of their rivals: the [pro-presidential] Fatherland [Otan] Party
and the [pro-presidential] Civic Party of Kazakhstan.

No one has provided evidence confirming the doubts of the
leaders of the Citizen Party, Zagipa Baliyeva said. In a phone
conversation with our correspondent one of the leaders of the
Civic Party said the allegation by a member of the opposition
party was not worth commenting upon.

The number of players in the election field has gone up by
two more parties today. The Central Electoral Commission
registered the party lists of both the [pro-presidential]
Revival Party of Kazakhstan and the [opposition] People's
Congress Party of Kazakhstan. The candidates received their
[registration] certificates. As of today they have the right to
open election accounts and launch their official poster
campaign.
