Uzbek party congress nominates incumbent president as candidate for presidency

 
Excerpt from report by Uzbek radio on 22nd September

The second congress of the Fidokorlar [Self-Sacrificers,
pro-presidential] National Democratic Party of Uzbekistan took
place in Tashkent today [22nd September]. After the leading and
working organs of the congress were elected, Erkin Norbotayev,
the first secretary of the party, made a speech about the work
of the central council and the party's election platform. After
the discussion of these issues, nominees for deputy in the
forthcoming elections to the Supreme Assembly [the parliament]
and a nominee for president were presented. The delegates of
the second congress of the Fidokorlar [Self-Sacrificers]
National Democratic Party unanimously nominated the president
of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov, as
a candidate for the presidency.
