11/13/08

Five Kyrgyz judges have been fired for a variety of misdeeds, ranging from bribery to gross violations of the law, Kyrgyz news agencies have reported.

Issyk-Ata Regional Court Judge Barnakul Avizov, Ton Regional Court Judge Apas Omuraliev, Kara-Kulzha Regional Court Judge Shavkat Osmonaliev were dismissed by President Kurmanbek Bakiyev on November 12, the Kabar news agency reported.

Avizov was cited for gross violation of legal and procedural criminal law and of "rude and immoral behavior" to lawyers. Omuraliev was dismissed after members of the local legal community complained about the judge's behavior. Osmonaliev was also cited for improper action in a case where he unilaterally ordered the release of an alleged counterfeiter from custody.

Under a separate presidential order Marat Kubatbekov, the Moscow regional court judge of Chui oblast, and Bolot Mombekov, representative of the Kara-Kul city court in Jalalabad, were dismissed for extortion and power abuse respectively.
