Turkish diplomats are trying to dissuade the US Congress from proceeding with plans to hold a hearing that could lead to US recognition of the Ottoman-era mass killing of Armenians as genocide.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davitoglu said the congressional resolution, scheduled for a March 4 hearing before the House of Representatives' Committee on Foreign Affairs, could have negative consequences for US-Turkish relations, as well as for the reconciliation process between Turkey and Armenia, Turkish news outlets reported on February 8.
The congressional resolution is sponsored by Rep. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat.
