President Nursultan Nazarbayev will attend a nuclear security summit convened by US President Barack Obama in Washington DC on April 12-13.
The Kazakh president is also scheduled to hold a "short bilateral meeting" with Obama, a spokesman for the US embassy in Astana told EurasiaNet on April 5.
More than 40 heads of state will attend the nuclear summit. In 2009, Kazakhstan offered to host a global nuclear fuel bank on its territory. The bank would allow countries to acquire fuel for nuclear power plants without having to develop nuclear enrichment capabilities. The International Atomic Energy Agency would supervise access to the fuel bank.
