The first vice president of Afghanistan, Mohammad Qasim Fahim, is calling for stronger economic links to Turkmenistan.
Fahim said an increase in trade and cooperation could help promote Afganistan's stabilization. In addition, the completion of infrastructure projects could have a "positive" impact on the pace of economic development, the Afghanistan.ru website quoted Fahim as saying on April 6.
In 2008 Turkmen-Afghan trade turnover stood at just under $50 million, the bulk of which was made up of Turkmen energy exports to Afghanistan.
