Six Afghan nationals currently jailed in Turkmenistan are to be handed over to the Afghan authorities.
The prisoners, who were recently granted amnesty by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, are to be repatriated in late May, a source in the Afghan Foreign Ministry told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti. "[The release] was made possible through the efforts of the Afghan political parties and the decree of the President of Turkmenistan," the source was quoted as saying May 18.
Overall, 29 foreigners were among the 1,671 convicts covered under the presidential amnesty.
