Eni Faleomavaega, a non-voting member of the US Congress representing American Samoa, has wrapped up a two-day visit to Uzbekistan. He is the first member of either chamber of Congress to visit Uzbekistan in four years, according to the American Embassy in Tashkent.
Faleomavaega met with Uzbek Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov and Deputy Prime Minister Ergash Shaismatov, according to local media reports on June 30.
Faleomavaega is chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and the Global Environment in the House of Representatives. He is also a member of the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. Faleomavaega first visited Uzbekistan in 2002. He is currently in Kyrgyzstan and will visit Kazakhstan July 2-4.
