News Briefs: The Presidents of Russia, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan are due to meet in Dushanbe later in July. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will be making an official state visit to the Tajik capital. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Afghan President Hamid Karzai will pay working visits, Davlat Nazriev, a spokesman for the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told the news agency Asia Plus on July 14. The summit is scheduled for July 29. "The goal is that the [presidents] will discuss issues of transport, communications and energy networks in Russia, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan," Nazriev said. Medvedev is also expected to attend the opening of the much-delayed Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant with Tajik President Imomali Rahmon, he added.
