Georgia wants to serve as a transit hub for Turkmen natural gas destined for Europe.

Romanian and Georgian officials, who met in Ankara on July 13 at the signing of the Nabucco pipeline agreement, are working on plans to build a liquefied natural gas terminal in Georgia, news agencies reported on June 15. According to Georgian Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri, Romanian experts will visit Georgia in late July to continue discussions on the project.

Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov signed a railway agreement during the first meeting of the Turkmen-Georgian inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation, held in Ashgabat on July 13. Romanian President Traian Basescu is scheduled to visit Ashgabat on July 21-22, the Turkmen opposition website Chrono-tm.org reported.
