Uzbek President Islam Karimov has presented the Azerbaijan-based leader of the Caucasian Muslims Office with a golden miniature replica of legendary Registan Square located in the Uzbek city of Samarkand.
Uzbekistans ambassador to Azerbaijan, Ismetulla Irgashev, conveyed the gift to the influential Islamic cleric, Sheik ul-Islam Allahshukyur Pashazade, to mark the religious leaders 60th birthday. Pashazade has ties to Uzbekistan, as he was educated in the Uzbek city of Bukhara.
The miniature is made of solid gold, according to a report distributed by the APA news agency. Registan Square and the entire city of Samarkand is a traditional hub of Islamic scholarship.
