The Ashgabat Ecology Club is the sole non-profit provider of Internet connectivity in Turkmenistan. At
present, the club serves 150 clients, of whom 40 are commercial. The club provides services to
commercial clients at one-half the rate charged by the only other server in Turkmenistan, and its
commercial revenues allow it to provide services free of charge to individual and non-profit users.
The club has 3 Pentium computers which provide full cross-platform access to dial-up customers from all
over Turkmenistan. It also houses a publicly accessible database geared towards general use. Because it
has no constant connection to the Web, it receives email from Glasnet in Moscow every three hours.
