Results

When will the final election and plebiscite results be announced?

Preliminary results are expected by January 6, according to Central Election Commission Chairman Levan Tarkhinishvili. Final results will be announced no later than eight days after the vote, if no election disputes arise.

Vote Tallying

How will voting results be calculated?

The chairperson of each polling station's election commission must appoint at least three persons to tally the votes once voting stops at 8pm and the ballot box is locked. Ballots are counted manually; both foreign and local observers monitor the tallying.

Protocols of the tabulated vote are taken by car to the Central Election Commission in Tbilisi; the polling station election commission chairpersons must hand them over personally to CEC Chairman Levan Tarkhnishvili. Observers or other election commission members (as well as any other individual) are free to accompany the car carrying the protocols, which travels without special escort.

Disputing the Vote

What is the process for disputing election results?

Political parties, candidates, observers and election commission members have until 8pm on election day to file complaints against a polling station's voting procedure with the station's election commission. Appeals are filed with the district commission and the Central Election Commission before entering the court system. At each stage, the relevant commission or court has two days to make a decision. The final instance is the Court of Appeal, whose decisions are not subject to further claim.

Claims against tabulation of the vote must be filed before completion of a polling station's protocol, and follow a similar procedure.

Claims against the final vote results must be filed in court within two days of the CEC approval of the final vote protocol. By law, final election results cannot be published until all election-related lawsuits are resolved.
