Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
Broadcast Director, Tajik Service

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty is a private, international communications service to Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe; the Caucasus; and Central and Southwestern Asia funded by the US Congress through the Broadcasting Board of Governors. We are currently seeking a Broadcast Director, Tajik Service, to be based in Prague, Czech Republic.

You will oversee the operation of the broadcast department, the Dushanbe bureau and a worldwide network of freelance reporters, ensuring that the news output, information and feature programs are balanced, and in adherence with RFE/RL policy and the highest standards of journalistic integrity and accuracy. Reporting to the Associate Director of Broadcasting, you will be responsible for program development and implementation, editorial control of all radio, print and on-line news content, and administration of the department's budget.

Qualifications:

  • Professional fluency in spoken and written Tajik and English essential
  • A university degree in journalism, international relations, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in one of these disciplines
  • Minimum of 10 years professional journalism experience including work in a fast-paced, international news organization
  • Broad knowledge of political, economic, and social structures of Tajikistan and CIS, as well as strong general knowledge of international affairs
  • Significant supervisory experience in a news organization that includes responsibility for budgeting, managing staff and resources, organizing work processes, mentoring and team-building in a multicultural environment
  • Superior conceptual, strategic, written and communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop, present, and implement effective and innovative solutions to complex technical and operational problems under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to journalistic objectivity and integrity
  • Proven ability to function effectively with people from widely different national and cultural backgrounds
  • Background in broadcast journalism strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Russian highly desired
