CENTRAL ASIA REPORTER/EDITOR
Consultancy Description:
EurasiaNet (http://www.eurasianet.org/) is seeking a consultant to serve as a reporter/editor for Central Asia. The reporter/editor would help cover developments in all five post-Soviet Central Asian states, interacting with other local EurasiaNet contributors. The reporter/editor must be based in the region, preferably either in Bishkek, Kyrygzstan, or Almaty, Kazakhstan. The reporter/editor would be retained under a consultancy contract that will provide for a monthly retainer.
EurasiaNet is a web-based publication that provides information and analysis about political, economic, environmental and social developments in the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus, as well as in Russia, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia. The web site also offers additional features, including newsmaker interviews and book reviews.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of related professional journalism experience with a daily or weekly news outlet;
- Native English language proficiency;
- At least conversation knowledge of Russian is required, and knowledge of a local language is highly desirable; and
- Thorough, first-hand knowledge of Central Asian political, social and economic affairs.
Term: 12 months
Fee: Commensurate with experience
