What do Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Chad have in common? Well, at least in terms of women's equality, all happen to be in the bottom ten of a new report that looks at the gender gap in 134 countries around the globe.
The annual report, put out by the World Economic Forum, listed Turkey at number 126 out of 134, which marked a bit of progress over last year, when the country's rank was 129. The report, which looks at gender equality (or inequality) in a number of spheres, found Turkey lagging way behind almost all of its neighbors in terms of women's political and economic participation and educational attainment.
The report on Turkey can be found here, while the full study is here. The Hurriyet Daily News takes a look at the study, blaming (perhaps too simplistically) the current government for the dismal rankings. You can also find more details on the subject in this previous post.
