The heavy workload has got to the football-playing son of Tajikistan's President Emomali Rakhmon after all.
Days after being appointed head of a Customs Services smuggler-busting department, news has emerged that 23-year-old Rustam Emomali is to resign his seat in the Dushanbe city council.
Well, to be exact, the Central Election Commission has pointed out that Emomali is barred by law from holding down both jobs, so he had little choice in the matter.
Citing official sources, Russian regional news service Regnum notes that representatives of law enforcement and military bodies, a category that also includes the Customs Service, cannot also hold a position in a law-making chamber.
Emomali's deputy status will be suspended at the next city council session, the service reports.
That didn't last long.
Emomali was elected to the council in the February 2010 elections as a member of his father's ruling People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan.
He would probably have preferred to be allowed to join the grown-ups in the national parliament, but he will have to turn 25 before that can happen.
Tea-leaf readers frequently speculate about whether Rakhmon is grooming Emomali as a successor, and whether his work in government isn't just preparation for that eventual promotion. Alas, another 12 years will have to pass before he is even constitutionally allowed to consider running, just as the current president reaches the venerable age of 70. And wouldn't you know it, the constitution forbids anybody over the age of 65 being nominated for the office of president.
