Remember the Nowruz gift that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave to President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov back in March? (Some great pictures of the gifting ceremony and the shiny new two-seater plane can be see at irandefence.net)
The Turkmen leader didn't actually fly home then in the light sports aircraft, valued at about $130,000.
While it took awhile, the plane finally did land Wednesday at the Ashgabat airport, where it was greeted by various officials, elders and some imams who gave the aircraft a blessing and offered prayers for the two leaders' well-being and prosperity for their countries.
The single-engine plane was hailed as "a bright symbol of the commitment of the Turkmen and Iranian peoples to maintaining the age-old traditions of good neighborliness and brotherhood."
The lavish present also seemed to be about an Iranian company hoping to get a purchase order out of Turkmenistan's border patrol, and about creating a favorable climate for more promised gas purchases.
No doves were observed on the scene.
