Turkmenistan to Create Competitive Mobile Communication Market
President Berdymukhamedov instructed Minister of Communications Bairamgeldi Ovezov to start creating competition within the mobile communications market. Berdymkhamedov ordered the privatization of the mobile communication sector and the national provider Altyn Asyr (TM CELL), in order to raise the level of competition. It is planned to establish joint ventures with foreign capital. Negotiations are currently underway with a major mobile service provider from the UAE, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat).

Volume of Trade Turnover Between Russia and Turkmenistan Exceeded $4.3 billion
Russia is one of Turkmenistan’s leading trade partners. In 2011 the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to more than $4,3 billion, which is significantly higher than the previous year, said Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Alexander Blohin, in an interview with Turkmenistan magazine. Over the last several years the trade turnover has grown due to increased cooperation in areas not related to oil and gas, said the diplomat. Excluding gas supplies, the volume of trade turnover last year amounted to $1,3 billion. Russia exports to Turkmenistan mainly machinery and metals and imports chemical products. Dozens of Russian companies work in Turkmenistan including Gazprom, KamAZ, ITERA, Stroitransgas, air company S7 (Syberia), and the group of construction companies Vozrozhdenie.
