SOCAR: Classic Nabucco Still an Option SOCAR has publicly disagreed with an assessment by British Petrolium (BP) that the original Nabucco route is off the table for the Shah Deniz-2 gas project. Speaking in an interview with Austrian newspaper Die Presse, deputy head of SOCAR Elshad Nassirov said that the opinion put forth by BP refining and marketing chief Iain Conn last week did not reflect the views of SOCAR. "We informed BP that we do not agree with this comment," he told the newspaper. "BP apologized and described the comment as a private opinion."

International Rail Station to be Built on Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan Border
The Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the delegation from Kazakhstan headed by Minister of Transport and Communications, Askar Zhumagaliev, to discuss the construction of the Uzen-Gyzylgaya-Bereket-Etrek-Gorgan railway, a key section of the transnational North-South transport corridor designed for transporting goods to South Asia, to the Persian Gulf ports, and in the opposite direction - through Russia to Eastern Europe. The participants signed an agreement establishing an international railway crossing point across the state border of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. Initially the North-South railroad will transport up to 3-5 million tons of cargo per year, and in the future this figure is expected to increase to 10-12 million tons.

"Turkmenistan Airlines" Holds International Tender for Construction of Airport
The State National Service “Turkmenhowayollary” has announced an international tender for the design and construction of a new airport complex in the outskirts of Turkmenabat city, with the capacity of serving 500 passengers per hour. The tender also provides for the design and construction of a 3,800 m long runway, taxiways, equipping them with means of ground support operations, reconstruction of the existing apron, and construction of a centralized refueling hub on the apron at the airport of the city of Dashoguz.

Car Racing Tracks to be Built in Avaza
The Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan has announced an international tender for the design and “turnkey” construction of car racing tracks in the Avaza tourism zone with the capacity of hosting international level competitions.

Textile Industry Exhibition Held in Ashgabat
On June 2 Turkmenistan hosted an exhibition “Achievements and perspectives of Turkmenistan’s textile industry.” On June 3 the exhibition was followed by a scientific conference which gathered Turkmen and foreign specialists, scientists and representatives of manufacturing and trading companies from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, Korea, and other countries. Traditionally, Turkmenistan exports textiles to China, Russia, Britain, South Korea, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Ukraine, and the Baltic countries.

Turkmenistan’s Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange Sells Goods in Excess of US $132 million
Last week, the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan registered 38 transactions exceeding 132,123,000 US dollars. Businessmen from the USA, UAE, Cyprus and the Virgin Islands purchased products from the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries. Buyers from Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, Belgium, Ukraine, Belize, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan purchased cotton, textile products, and wheat.
