Turkmenistan to Address UN for Resolution of Dispute with Azerbaijan
The statements of Azerbaijani officials including of Azerbaijan’s Industry and Energy Minister, Natik Aliyev, in the Azerbaijani media, regarding Turkmenistan’s activities in the disputed Serdar oil field, reflect only one side of the conflict, according to Turkmenistan’s State Information Agency TDH. Turkmenistan’s Acting Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources K. Abdyllaev commented on the situation in his interview with a TDH correspondent, saying that Azerbaijan is refusing to cooperate, thus compelling Turkmenistan to file a law suit against Azerbaijan with the UN International Court of Justice.

President Berdymukhamedov Receives Many Guests
On June 28 President Berdymukhamedov received many guests, including foreign delegations and businessmen, who came to Ashgabat to congratulate the Turkmen leader on his birthday. The list of guests included the Chairman of the Council of the Russian Oil and Gas Entrepreneurs Union, Yuriy Shafrannik; Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishenko; Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Victor Maiko; Chairman of the Managing Council of the Turkish company, Chalyk Holding, Akhmet Chalyk; as well as representatives of French, Indian, Turkmen and other companies.

Presidents of Turkmenistan and Russia Speak by Phone
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov spoke on the phone with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The Turkmen leader invited Putin to visit Turkmenistan. Putin accepted the invitation, and now the dates of the visit are to be coordinated through diplomatic channels. The presidents of Turkmenistan and Russia discussed prospects for cooperation and the agenda of the Commonwealth of Independent States’ Head of Governments Council meeting to be held in November 2012, in Ashgabat, within the framework of Turkmenistan’s presidency of the CIS in 2012.

Russia-Turkmenistan Partnership Enters New Level: Putin
The partnership between Russia and Turkmenistan is steadily expanding and entering a qualitatively new level, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his letter congratulating President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on his birthday. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also sent a congratulatory message to the Turkmen leader, saying that the traditionally friendly relations between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan are taking on a new dynamic and are marked by new projects. Russia and Turkmenistan are major exporters of natural gas in the CIS space. Russia ranked third in Turkmenistan's total trade turnover over three months in 2012, with the trade turnover amounting to $1,235,410 billion. About 180 Turkmen-Russian joint ventures currently operate in Turkmenistan.

Ashgabat, Kiev to Intensify Energy Cooperation
President Berdymukhamedov received Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Boiko and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstantin Grizhenko. During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for closer cooperation in the oil and gas sector. Kiev is considering importing approximately five billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas per year, and in return, Turkmenistan will examine the possibilities of involving Ukrainian companies in infrastructure development projects.

Uzbekistan Reinstalls Exit Visas for Tajikistan and Turkmenistan
Uzbek authorities reintroduced exit visas for Uzbek citizens travelling to Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. The officials provided no explanation for this decision. State media reported that the new rules entered into force as of June 1, but no prior official notice was given.
