A delegation from Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Prime Minister Byagul Nurmyradova will visit China from August 2 – 8, to learn from China’s experience of holding high-level international events.

New Head of OSCE Mission in Turkmenistan Assumes Office
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov received the newly appointed Head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Ashgabat, Ivo Petrov, the Turkmen government reported on August 1. The diplomat conveyed greetings from the OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zanera. During the meeting, the Turkmen leader emphasized that the partnership with the OSCE is constructive and enhances the efforts to address today’s most pressing issues.

Boxing Flap Gives Ashgabat a Black Eye
On August 2, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) announced that Turkmen referee Ishanguly Meretnyyazov had been banished from the London Olympic Games after he presided over a bout in which Azerbaijani boxer Magomed Abdulhamidov was knocked down six times in one round, yet somehow managed to walk away with a decision on points. According to international amateur boxing rules, three knock-downs in one round should prompt the referee to stop the fight.
