A little while back, your very own Tamada posted a piece about how Armenia was hoping refugees from the ongoing violence in Syria might be coaxed into moving to Nagorno-Karabakh. Well, it turns out that Syrian-Armenians are saying “we’ll take a rain-check” to that idea.
When Yerevan sent up the ‘send-them-to-Karabakh’ trial balloon, officials in Azerbaijan, which is struggling to regain the territory, got a little purse-lipped. It turns out they should not have worried.
Separatist authorities in Karabakh report that no Syrian has expressed a desire to relocate to the territory. “Nevertheless, we are ready, in case we receive requests, to help accommodate our compatriots from Syria,” said de-facto Karabakh government spokesman David Babayan.
