US Peace Corps to Phase out Operations in Turkmenistan by 2013
After nearly 20 years of partnership with the people and government of Turkmenistan, the US Peace Corps will phase out its program in Turkmenistan by the end of 2012. Since 1993, more than 740 American health and English-language teacher volunteers have lived and worked in every region of Turkmenistan. Peace Corps considers its program to have been extraordinarily successful in terms of achieving its development and cultural exchange goals. Currently, there are 18 volunteers serving in Turkmenistan. They will complete their service in September and the Peace Corps administrative office in Ashgabat will close in December.

IDB Head: Cooperation with Turkmenistan is Priority for Bank
During a working visit to Tehran, President Berdymukhamedov met with the head of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Madani, Altyn Asyr – the Turkmen National TV Channel reported. "The IDB head said that cooperation with Turkmenistan is an important priority for his organization," said the report.

Turkmen-Iranian Talks Held in Tehran
Turkmen President Berdymukhamedov met with his Iranian counterpart Mahmud Ahmadinejad during the 16th Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, the Turkmen government reported on Friday. They discussed urgent international issues of common interest, as well as prospects for economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran.

Ashgabat Ready to Hold NAM Conference Dedicated to Peace and Security
Speaking at the 16th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, Turkmen President Berdymukhamedov proposed to hold a conference on peace and security in the world in Ashgabat in 2015, the local media reported on August 31. "In this regard, I propose to hold the conference of the NAM member-states, dedicated to strengthening the global dialogue for peace, security and human development, in Ashgabat in 2015," the Turkmen leader said.

Turkmen and Azeri Deputy FMs to Discuss Caspian Sea Status in Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan will hold the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Ashgabat on October 4, 2012, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, Toyli Komekov, said at a press conference on Wednesday. The Ambassador noted the effectiveness of the intergovernmental commissions, as well as the substantial prospects for trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan Ready to Transfer Funds to IMF Trust Fund
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board proposed that IMF members, including Turkmenistan, transfer a certain amount of funds to a trust to reduce poverty and promote economic growth. President Berdymukhamedov stressed the importance of Turkmenistan transferring funds to this particular fund.

Ambassador: Turkmenistan to Continue Policy of Close Cooperation with UN
Speaking at a press conference, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Toyli Komekov said that Turkmenistan, in accordance with the basic principles of its foreign policy pursued under the guidance of the President of Turkmenistan, will steadily adhere to the strategies and policies of close and full cooperation with the United Nations, fully contributing to the strengthening of the organization’s authority and influence in the world during the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly.

Deputy Head of Afghan Province Arrested in Turkmenistan
Official authorities of the Afghan Jawzjan province reported that the Deputy Head of Jawzjan Provincial Council was arrested in Turkmenistan, says Afghanistan.ru. Leaders of Jawzjan travel to neighboring Turkmenistan regularly. A member of the provincial council, Nabia Mustafa-zade, informed Afghanmedia that Turkmen police arrested the Deputy Head because they found two bullets in his possession. The Jawzjan Council has begun negotiations with the Turkmen authorities and expects them to release the arrested official shortly.
